Like most political organizations, the Republican National Committee operates to a campaign rhythm. Over time, it is tempting to keep doing things the same way, year in year out. With field offices in every state, equipment moving back and forth, and accurate budget tracking a must, Carr was engaged to implement a budget and inventory tracking system that would replace dozens of spreadsheets and thousands of manual labor hours.
Solution:
Carr recommended Microsoft SharePoint as the right platform to support the RNC's field offices. Business processes were analyzed and improved upon. Where legacy applications existed for some functions - these were deconstructed. With SharePoint/SQL Server as the new system hub, work flow capabilities were seamlessly implemented to meet the RNC's needs. Our process automation analysis led to operational improvements such as an inventory tracking system with bar coding, automated budget management, and tracking capabilities that are much more efficient that spreadsheets and emails.
Impact:
Field adoption of the new SharePoint system was quick, because the core technology utilized a Microsoft look and feel that both staff and volunteers were already familiar with. The RNC was able to reduce staffing to support the field, better track inventory hardware, and redirect cost savings to political campaigns. Furthermore, because SharePoint is a market leading technology, the RNC is not chained to its original vendor as the only company that really understands the solution that has been built.
Carr Systems continues to support the RNC. Our work has expanded to include custom projects such as iPhone games and website widgets.
