DonorTrends is a fundraising analytics company that is beating the competition with better mousetraps. Launching a new data research product, however, was not going to be easy - the ideas were new and the budgets were tight. Software companies offered to customize COTS products for costs ranging from $150,000 to $250,000. Carr Systems was asked to examine the business requirements and find a solution approach for a fraction of the competitors' quotes.
Solution:
Carr recommended building a web-based prototype data engine using Drupal over MySQL. Drupal would bring the collaborative functionality desired by DonorTrends for their customers, while MySQL would be a solid database layer for launch. Prototyping the solution would let DonorTrends take their new product to selected customers in order to prove the business model before investing significant funds into the project. We had three months to get the system out the door. We also built their new website.
Impact:
Customer response to DonorTrends' True Information Platform (TIP) and their new website have been very positive. Website traffic is up, leads are up, and their donor screening services are growing. Harvard and United Way are among the customers enjoying the TIP data research platform. DonorTrends is a growth company in a very competitive market. By continuing to build better mousetraps, they are challenging old ways of doing things and in the process winning over a very hard-to-please customer base.
