The team at Army Emergency Relief pursues a mission in which all of us can believe. They provide financial support to our Service men and women, and their families, "helping the Army take care of its own". For more than twenty years, however, AER had become increasingly dependent on custom built enterprise software that was essentially controlled by the vendor. With no system documentation and limited customer knowledge about the programming available, Carr Systems was asked to perform systems analysis on the core databases in order to validate work flow processes, data dependencies, input/outputs, and more. AER's goal was to move to a COTS platform that would integrate their loan tracking software with their accounting system, but they needed objective analysis of their legacy systems.
Solution:
Carr completed a two-phased consulting engagement that included reverse engineering, data mapping, work flow analysis, and systems documentation. Our analysis of the legacy systems built in ASP/SQL Server proved an important addition to AER's business requirements for new technology.
Impact:
Thanks to our efforts, AER was able to make fully informed decisions about potential COTS vendors and develop a systems migration plan that would free them from outdated custom software that had become to costly to maintain. AER is moving forward with this important business infrastructure project that will only improve their ability to serve the Service men and women who in turn serve all of us.
